Dominican Sister of Peace Josepha Buckley, OP 

Dominican Sister of Peace Josepha Buckley, OP, (100), a native of Boston, MA, died on November 30, 2023, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY. 
 
Josepha was born to Julia and David Buckley, both Irish immigrants. She entered the Congregation in 1948 and served God and God’s people as a Dominican religious for 75 years.  

Sr. Josepha earned a Bachelor of Arts in History/Social Studies from Regis College in Weston, MA, and a Master of Arts in Education/Guidance from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. 

She ministered as a teacher, principal, and administrator in Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio for more than 55 years. In 1972, Sr. Josepha ministered as the Assistant Personnel Director at St. Joseph Convent in Belmont, MA. She later provided community service at Rosary Manor in Watertown, MA. In 2014, Sr. Josepha moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse, where she continued to provide community service while working at Heavenly Treasures Mission Store in Springfield, KY. 

Sr. Josepha Buckley said on her fiftieth anniversary of profession, “God has granted me His greatest gift: belief in Him. I pray each day that this gift may be deepened and enlivened by being used in service to others.” In her preaching at the funeral, Sr. Marina Gibbons said, “That is what she did until her death.” 
 
Sr. Josepha is survived by several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation took place on Wednesday, December 6, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral was held on Thursday, December 7, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel, followed by Burial in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
