Dominican Sister of Peace Valerie Noone, OP 

Dominican Sister of Peace Valerie Noone, OP, (83), born in Jersey City, NJ, died on October 11, at the Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH.   

Valerie was born to Ida Feeney and John Noone in February 1941. In 1958, she entered the Congregation and has served God’s people for the last 54 years. 
 
Sr. Valerie earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from St. Mary of the Springs College, now Ohio Dominican University, a Master of Education in Montessori Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from Catholic University, Washington, D.C.  
 
She ministered as a teacher, principal and school administrator in Ohio and Connecticut. After a brief sabbatical, she then served as Assistant Advancement Director and in Congregational Service in Connecticut and Mission Group Coordinator of the East. Following this, she spent time as a tutor and volunteer at Emmaus House, a residential treatment facility, and at our learning centers. 

In her preaching at the funeral Sr. Michelle Sherliza said, “With each ministry, Valerie faithfully preached the “good news”. Her warmth, compassion and generosity to all was a gift to be treasured.” 

Sr. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Feeney Noone, her brothers Bernard, John, and Patrick Noone, and her sister Margaret Duffy. She is survived by her brother Thomas Noone, her sister Mary Rottino, and nieces and nephews. 

The wake was held on Friday, October 28, featuring an office and sharing of memories. The Mass of Resurrection took place on Saturday, October 29. All services were held at the Columbus Motherhouse Chapel, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
