Thanksgiving dinner on a scorching June evening was a delightful background for the 13th Annual ‘Heroes of Hope’ awards celebration of the Archdiocese of Louisville Office of Multicultural Ministry and the 25th Anniversary of the Catholic Enrichment Center.
Sisters Catherine Mahady and Barbara Sullivan were joined by associates Linda Medley and Marybeth Irvine in representing the Dominican Sister of Peace at the event. The event honors those who work at the Catholic Enrichment Center in Louisville’s West End, an area impacted by many hardships associated with poverty and segregation.
Among the honorees was Audrey Penman. Audrey is a social worker with the Sister Visitor Center, where both Marybeth and Rosie Blackburn volunteer. Because of the congregation’s sponsorship of the event, two of Audrey’s co-workers from Catholic Charities were able to attend as our guests. Audrey has no relatives in the area, so we helped fill in as one piece of her family for the evening. Our guests were Swarupa Watlington and Aaron Baer.
