Sr. Clara Ann Fluech, OP

Sister Clara Ann Fluech, 81, died December 27, 2025, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in Great Bend, Kansas.  She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and entered the Dominican Sisters community in 1964, making Profession in 1967. When completing her entrance application, she wrote, “I wish to enter because I believe God has called me to give honor and glory to Him in such state.”  She continued to live out that call for the rest of her life. 

Sister Clara Ann ministered as an elementary school teacher in Great Bend, Fowler, and Hoisington, Kansas.  She also served as a Pastoral Minister in Goodland, Kansas. In the mid-1970s, she moved to Nigeria. For nearly two decades, she ministered in Bakori, Gusau and Sokoto, Nigeria, where she enriched countless lives. She particularly treasured her involvement in the formation of women discerning religious life and her service as Diocesan Secretary, Pastoral Coordinator, and Religious Education Coordinator in Sokoto. 

The Bishop of the Katsina, Nigeria, diocese referred to her years in Nigeria by recently writing, “During her missionary years in Nigeria, she gave of herself generously to working with women in primary evangelism and adult literacy… her service as Chancellor of the Diocese of Sokoto was marked by diligence, integrity and pastoral wisdom.”  

In 1996, Sr. Clara Ann moved back to Missouri to care for her aging parents and family members.  In 2009, she returned to work in ministry to the elderly, Clinical Pastoral Education, and teaching English as a second language.  She retired in 2012. 

Sr. Clara loved to sing, to play the guitar, and generally to be around people.  She was kind and gentle with a gracious smile for everyone she saw and she loved her family. Sr. Clara Ann was guided by the conviction that she was called to help others recognize their worth in the eyes of God and to assist them in their own calling. 

Sr. Clara Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Edward. She is survived by her brothers and sister-in-law, Joseph (Becky), John, and James, as well as five nieces and six nephews. 

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 2 at the Great Bend Motherhouse Convent and burial was held at the Resurrection Cemetery.
