When in Memphis, Sr. Marina ministered as the Academic Dean and President of Siena College and served as Superintendent/President of St. Agnes/St. Dominic. She was also an instructor in various New York, Missouri and Massachusetts schools and colleges.
Sr. Marina was part of the former leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine. In 1994, she travelled to Vietnam to teach English in Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas, and when she returned, she became Vice-President/Academic Dean of St. Catharine College. Sr. Marina was known for her volunteer and community service work and served in the ministry of prayer since 2014.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Philosophy/History from Manhattan College; a Master of Arts in Library Science from Rosary College; and a Ph.D. in English Literature from St. Louis University.
During her funeral Mass at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel, Sr. Rosemary Rule, OP offered the reflection saying, “Marina’s hallmark virtue, it seems to me, was gratitude. She found a spiritual home in Dominican life. Often, she spoke of how wonderful the nurses are at Sansbury and how appreciative she was of being able to attend Mass… When we are embedded in gratitude, it leads us to outwardness… When choosing elements for her funeral Mass, Marina focused on the perspective of God being with us from the beginning, comforting us, showing us how to be with one another, and continuing that life with us for all eternity.”
Sr. Marina is survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorial gifts in Sr. Marina’s memory may be sent to Dominican Sisters of Peace, Office of Mission Advancement, 2320 Airport Dr., Columbus, OH 43219-2098. To make a secure online donation or to view a full obituary, please visit www.oppeace.org.
