The Memphis Dominican Family of about 50 Associates and friends gathered for a memorable Lenten Retreat on the campus of St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School with the theme, "Drawing Closer to God."

The day began with Mass and Msgr. Val Handwerker spoke of going to court with Bishop Emeritus J. Terry Steib and observing migrant hearings.
Sr. Cathy Galaskiewicz received a special blessing and spoke of prayer, recalling Catherine of Siena being told by God to walk on two feet of prayer and action.
Associate Meghan Slater led an art therapy session that focused on Lenten journeys. Everyone received an empty jewelry box that they filled with personal symbols and drawings based on their Lenten experience and other symbols relating to Lent and the Dominican pillars.

The day also included brunch, ice cream, farewell tributes and a gift box for Sr. Cathy who will move to the St. Catharine Motherhouse on March 26.
Sr. Cathy is the last Dominican Sister of Peace to serve in Memphis.
Dominicans from Kentucky and Ohio first came to Memphis in 1851 to found St. Agnes Academy, later founding St. Dominic School for Boys.
175 years later this Catholic-Dominican St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School stands strong, the Dominican Associates are vibrant, and our mission continues.

A wonderful retreat was enjoyed by all, thanks to the Veritas Group of Associates. Please see some additional photos from this memorable retreat byclicking here.
Thanks, Sr. Cathy, for your faithful ministry to our Associates.
We look forward to welcoming you here, Cathy!

What a wonderful way to mark your transition from Memphis to St. Catherine’s. We are looking forward to your arrival along with some of the folks from the Associate Group who are helping you to move…in less than 10 days. Countdown! We’ll be praying you through on this end too! Much peace, Pat
So glad you are going to St. Catharine. You will be a grace-giving presence and a loving receptor of their energy. Gifts all around! Love, Barb Harrington
