Amazing Support Yields Wonderful Event

There’s something for everyone!

(Great Bend, KS) Thanks to the amazing support of our wonderful benefactors and hard work of Sisters, Associates, friends, family and other volunteers, the Annual Mission Bazaar held on November 14, 2015, was an overwhelming success.

By 2pm all the wooden outdoor decorations were gone; hundreds of scrubbies had new owners; over 350 people enjoyed soup and pie; many Christmas and everyday items had been sold; and drawings for 20 prizes had begun. We are so grateful for the constant crowd at the bazaar and for all those who helped make this possible – especially the bakers who worked all day Friday.

Because of our faithful supporters we are again able to provide financial support for the ministries of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine (Gusau, Nigeria). Their ministries are among the very poor in rural villages. (See photos)

Your support helps 4,000 people develop their faith. The rural development program operated by the diocese in partnership with the Sisters serves over 100,000 poor people in bazaar2015-2almost 100 communities. The Sisters’ health care ministries serve more than 2,000 patients per year in various locations. The programs for marginalized children and youth provide education to approximately 5,000 annually.

The Sisters also help with: grassroots evangelization, literacy programs for women, skill acquisition programs to empower women, and communion services – just to mention a few. All this is made possible through your generous assistance.

At home, money from the Great Bend bazaar also aids the economic poor in Kansas and Colorado where the Dominican Sisters of Peace serve. Children are provided warm coats and shoes. Families receive assistance with utilities and prescriptions. Gas assistance is available for those traveling for out-of-town medical appointments. Some of the money also goes to support programs that aid victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. (See photos)

God indeed continues to bless this annual community project for the needy in our country and overseas. May each worker know God’s blessing and our gratitude! Thank you and happy holidays!
