Dominican Sister of Peace Jean Vianney Norris, OP (89), died on December 27, 2015, at Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY). She was born in 1926 in Jamaica, NY, to parents Bartholomew and Letitia (Cogin) Norris. She entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine (now the Dominican Sisters of Peace) and made her first profession of vows in 1946. Continue reading →

AHA Moments When God Is Made Visible to Us

My friend began pouring out her heart-wrenching experience of her marriage breaking apart, and as I listened, I was silently praying, “God, please help her, help us. God, where are you?” Just then, a bright red cardinal lit upon the nearby rooftop and began singing what clearly sounded like, “Right here! Right here!” It was as if God rode in on the wings of a bird song to remind me to simply be present to my friend and pay attention without anxiety, because God was there to help us. I’ve always wanted to be a tour guide. When I was a child I would give imaginary tours of our house and could wax eloquent about the furnishings and various historical events that may have occurred in our house or at least on the grounds where it was built. Survivors of Human Trafficking find Comfort in Healing Retreat

COLUMBUS, OH – To assist in the healing of women who are survivors of human trafficking, the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Theresa Flores, founder of S.O.A.P. (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution), a human trafficking survivor, national speaker and writer, provided a New Beginnings Survivors Retreat for 20 victims of human trafficking from across the country. The retreat took place at the St. Therese Retreat Center (Columbus, OH), from January 1 to 3, 2016. The female attendees traveled from California, Texas, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio and ranged in age from the early 20s to 40s. Continue reading →
