Sr. Peggy Martin Receives Highest Honor from the Catholic Health Association

WASHINGTON, DC – Dominican Sister of Peace Peggy Martin, OP, received the prestigious Sister Concilia Moran Award at the annual assembly of the Catholic Health Association in Washington DC, June 7-9. The award is CHA’s highest honor. Sr. Peggy is the senior vice president, Sponsorship and Governance, for Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives. The citation describing the award read, in part, “She has demonstrated gifts at navigating the critically important intersection of the converging concerns of Church, health care and law so that each may achieve its goals… Sr. Peggy continues to share her knowledge of sponsorship and canon law across the health care ministry as consultant and educator, having served as a faculty member in the Collaborative Formation Program for Sponsors of Public Juridic Persons. In all her roles, she demonstrates fidelity to the mission that inspired religious leaders to entrust their precious human resources – their own members – to the ministries of health care.” Continue reading →

Sr. Venard Kessler, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace, Sr. Venard Kessler, OP, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on June 8, 2015. She was born in 1917 in Lancaster, OH, and in 1936 entered the congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace.  She professed vows on August 14, 1938. Continue reading →

I’ve often wondered what it means to be “called.” How does one hear God’s call or know that it is God who calls them? Is God’s call audible and clear? Is a call a thunderous event? Is a call real if it is filled with restlessness and confusion? Does one experience fireworks and a feeling of fulfillment upon accepting a calling? Is a call similar to answering a message?
