Dominican Sister of Peace Matilda Vaitekaitis, OP (97), died at Mohun Health Care Center (Columbus, OH) on March 31, 2016. She was born in Worcester, MA, and served in the United States Navy prior to entering the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia (Nashville, TN) in 1950. Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Hilary Simpson, OP (78), died on February 15, 2016, at North Oaks Medical Center (Hammond, LA). Her parents were Siguard Edgar Simpson, Jr. and Beatrice Vitrano Simpson. Sr. Hilary was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Siguard E. Simpson, III.
In 1955, Sr. Mary Hilary entered the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary, (New Orleans, LA) now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Loyola University (New Orleans, LA) and a Master of Science in Music Education and Instrumental Music from Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA). Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Fidelis Beck, OP (97), died January 24, 2016, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse in Oxford, MI. She was born November 8, 1918, in Brookside, PA, to Paul and Jeanne Guillaume and named Louise Pauline Beck. She entered the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine de’ Ricci (now the Dominican Sisters of Peace) in 1945 and professed her vows in 1948. Continue reading →
