A Blessed Christmas from the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Associates

A Christmas reflection from Sr. Patricia Twohill, OP, Prioress of the Dominican Sisters of Peace.

The Christmas Story, in the Voices of our Sisters

Dominican Sisters from around the country read the Story of the Nativity from the Gospel of Luke.

The Fourth Sunday of Advent

We anticipate the coming of Christ
and the graces promised in Scripture.

The book of Timothy tells us that God gives us the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.
Our youth programs in Kentucky, Kansas, New Orleans, and Ohio help young people develop the mental, emotional, and spiritual strength to turn from violence and build peace.

The Apostle Paul promises that we are redeemed by the grace of Christ.
Our Sisters in pastoral ministry around the nation help people walk more closely with God, guiding them through the Sacraments and offering counseling.

In the book of Peter, we are told “Use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”
God gives each of us the grace to work towards Peace. Whether you give of your time as a volunteer, offer your prayers for peace, or donate to our ministries, the Dominican Sisters of Peace are grateful for the grace you offer to us, during Advent and always.

We are gifted with God’s grace. Let us use it for Peace.

We wait with Grace for Christ’s transforming arrival …how will you share your time this Third Week of Advent?

Will you extend grace and caring to those who have served the Church?
Sisters in our care centers in Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan serve their final ministry of prayer and presence in the company of their community.

Will you offer your time to help another succeed?
Our Learning Centers need your generous gift of time to serve as tutors and office staff. Learn more here.

Can you encourage a young woman to follow her call?
The Dominican Sisters of Peace have six women in formation for consecrated religious life. Your gifts help us plan retreats, create materials, and travel to meet women discerning their vocation.

As we wait for the gift of Peace, let us give of our time.

The Second Sunday of Advent

The world awaits the coming of the Prince of Peace … what will you do while you wait for the Light?

Will you help to feed a hungry world while caring for our planet?
Crops grown under the high tunnels at Heartland Farms produce higher yields and better produce without the use of artificial heat or chemical insecticides.

Will you help a child have a better future?
Your gift to the Peace Center helps young people with learning difficulties get specialized help and tutoring to succeed in school.

Will you help a new neighbor learn to speak English and succeed in your community?
Rosenda and Annette had the patience and determination to work towards their citizenship – thanks to your support of the Dominican Learning Center in Columbus, they are ready for their naturalization ceremony!

As we wait for the gift of Peace, let us make peace in our own communities.

The First Sunday of Advent

As each of us makes a place in our hearts for the coming of Christ, how can you help bring hope and peace to those around you?

Can you offer hope to the homeless? Sr. Gemma Doll ministered to refugees fleeing violence by serving at the KINO Border Institute.  Working in the kitchen, the medical office, and in the desert, Sr. Gemma followed the word of God by bringing comfort to the marginalized.

Can you care for the Earth? Sr. Barb Harrington, OP, is an environmental volunteer at the Crystal Springs Preserve in Plainville, MA. The property was donated to the Wildlands Trust by the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2022, and will be protected as a natural space forever.

Can you offer comfort to those who are ill and troubled? The Dominican Retreat and Conference Center in Niskayuna, NY offers counseling and programs for those struggling with addiction or recovering from trauma.

We preach peace daily by offering hope and comfort to God’s people in need, wherever they are. Help us continue to care for God’s people.
