The Prologue to our Congregational Direction Statements, which approved by our Sisters at the Third General Chapter in 2022, reads:
Called by the Spirit and formed as women of the Church within the vibrant tradition of the Order of Preachers, We, the Dominican Sisters of Peace, with our Associates, journey together, inspired by the wisdom and faith of our founders and the great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us, as we embrace the future with courage and hope.
We are sent by God to be the Holy Preaching as we praise, we bless, and we preach the liberating truth of the Gospel of Jesus and labor with God for the transformation of all creation.
Our call to be peace, to build peace, and to preach peace requires that we read the signs of our times and interpret them faithfully in light of the Gospel.
Impelled by God’s own Spirit, the Breath of Love moving through the entire cosmos, we commit ourselves to seek truth and to speak the truth in love.
Every six years, after much prayer and study, the Dominican Sisters of Peace meet to develop the goals for the Congregation in light of the current needs of the Church and the world around us. Our Congregational Commitments, detailed above, are the results of that discernment.
These goals, or Commitments, are followed by every Sister and every Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace. Our Congregational Commitments are the foundation for planning and implementation in the ministries of the Congregation.
St. Dominic formed a preaching order in response to a heresy, or false faith, that was taking root in the world around him. Today, Dominicans respond to the needs of the day with their prayer, their preaching, and their ministry.
The Dominican Sisters of Peace, after study and prayer, have taken a number of public stances on important issues of justice in our world today.
