Sr. M. Alice Kessler, OP, the former Eva Kessler, died at 94 on May 19, 2015, at Regina Health Center, Richfield, OH. She was the daughter of Philip and Alice Kessler and entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, now Dominican Sisters of Peace, from St. Paul Parish, North Canton, Ohio on September 8, 1939. She made profession of vows on July 13, 1941. Sr. Alice was the only daughter among four brothers and learned to hold her own until four sisters and a brother were added to the family. Sr. Alice worked in food service for many years beginning at St. Joseph, Alliance; then at Immaculate Conception, Ravenna; St. Dominic, Youngstown; SS. Peter and Paul, Doylestown; St. Paul, St. Bernard and Our Lady of the Elms Motherhouse, all in Akron. She spent 12 years cooking at Camp Christopher in the summer. In 1969, she returned to Our Lady of the Elms Motherhouse where she became Food Service Director. In 1991, she volunteered at Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath, OH. During the summers working at Camp Christopher, Sr. Alice not only enjoyed cooking but also made many friends among the counselors who were the Cleveland Diocesan seminarians whom she kept in touch with over the years. At her Mass of Resurrection, Frs. Arthur Bacher and Jack McDonough as celebrant and homilist shared many humorous stories of their days at the camp with Sr. Alice. Her easy manner, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor endeared her to many. Over the years, we all enjoyed her delicious meals and baked goods. Sr. Alice moved to the Akron Motherhouse in 2006 where she performed community service. Because of health issues, she moved to Regina Health Center in July 2013. Sr. Alice is survived by sisters Helen Boeshart and Jane Gulling (Charles) both of N. Canton; Cecilia Gulling of Naples, FL; Alice Blaumiser of Canton and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Clarence, Donald, Robert, and Harry. Visitation, wake and funeral Mass were held Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, at the Akron Motherhouse; burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery.
