In the 60th year of her religious life, at the time of her death, Dominican Sister of Peace Patricia McCabe, OP, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born in Princeton, NJ, in 1932. She entered in 1952 and was professed in 1955 in the former congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Irene Duntlin McCabe and is survived by her sister, Anne McCabe Twele. She earned degrees in Biology from Albertus Magnus College, New Haven, CT, (bachelor), Catholic University (master) and Ohio State University (doctorate). Sr. Pat taught first grade at Holy Spirit Grade School and at St. James the Less in Columbus. She served at St. Lawrence Grade School in Pittsburgh and taught science at St. Mary High School in New Haven, CT, Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, CT, and at Mary Immaculate HS in Ossining, NY. She taught science at Albertus Magnus College and served in Adult Education at St. Vivian Parish, Cincinnati and as the Director of Evangelization at Holy Rosary/St. John Parish in Columbus. She served as a parish minister at St. Mary Center in Waverly, OH and ministered at Shepherd's Corner Ecology Center in Blacklick, OH. Throughout her life Sr. Pat was an ardent advocate for the care of all God's creation. Her love of science began as a young child as her father was on the faculty at Princeton University and she was no doubt inspired by Albert Eienstein, whom she met and talked with on campus. The French philosopher Jacques Maritain and his wife, Raissa, came to the family home for Sunday afternoon tea. Late in life Sr. Pat discovered the text that most described her passion in the writing of St. John of Damascus, "The whole earth is a living icon of the face of God." A green burial service was held on Monday, June 1, at St. Joseph Cemetery. A Memorial Mass was held at the Columbus Motherhouse on Wednesday June 3.
