From the Prioress

With Thanksgiving so near, I am thinking about gratitude. Dominican saint Catherine of Siena said, “Thanksgiving makes the soul incessantly delight in God.” We Dominican Sisters of Peace have so much for which to be grateful, including you, our generous supporters, and we truly delight in the goodness of God.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Three Sisters Profess Vows

It was a faith filled summer for the Dominican Sisters of Peace as three women made vows in the Columbus Motherhouse in August.

Sister Annie Killian made her Perpetual Profession of Vows on Aug. 3, and two weeks later Sisters Terri Schell and Paula Danforth made their First Vows.

Your support of the Dominican Sisters of Peace makes it possible for women discerning religious life to attend vocation events for free and truly take the time to hear God’s call and spiritually grow.

Because of you, our congregation can walk alongside women discerning religious life.

Sr. Annie began her discernment in 2014 and is now an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Notre Dame. Sr. Terri serves as the Director of Shepherd’s Corner Ecology Center, and Sr. Paula is an accounting specialist at Albertus Magnus College. Sisters Terri and Paula entered the congregation as candidates in 2022.

Thank you for supporting these women in their journey toward – and for – peace.

Learning Helps to Build Community

The Springs Learning Center has paired up with a truffle-making factory to help workers learn English.

Sabatino, an Italian truffle procurer and supplier, has a U.S. operation based in West Haven, Connecticut. Edwin Yupa, a Human Resources Specialist for Sabatino approached the Springs Learning Center when he noticed the employees would separate into groups largely based on the language they spoke – Spanish or English.

“We’d hold birthday parties for colleagues,” Yupa said. “Before the ESL classes, it would be English speakers or Spanish speakers only because one group didn’t know how to invite the other.”

Because of you, Springs Learning Center now teaches English to about 15 employees after work hours.

“The employees were openminded and willing to learn a second language,” Yupa said. “It’s opened doors and broken down the barrier between our English and Spanish speakers.”

And, after just a few months of classes, Yupa can already see the difference that your support has made possible.

“I see more diversity and inclusion,” he said. “We had a birthday party recently and almost everybody participated.”

A Retirement Celebration

Sr. Jane Belanger retired on November 1 after decades of dedication to the Congregation’s ecological ministries in Ohio and, more recently, Kansas. Surrounded by friends, Sr. Jane was celebrated at the Heartland Farm in Kansas, where she has been a member of the community since 2008. Prior to that, Sr. Jane was a founder and Program Director of Shepherd’s Corner in Blacklick, Ohio from 1992-2008. She professed her final vows in 1971 and has also served in education and retreat ministries.
