In her preaching at the funeral, Dominican Sister of Peace Andre Kravec, OP, said:

Who is Marie Hohman?

  • daughter of two loving parents;
  • big sister to her brother;
  • tenacious and no harder on others than she was on herself;
  • a math teacher; at times a principal;
  • a religious who gave wise advice to high school students;
  • friend to many;
  • a tutor for many years;
  • a woman who loved and was proud of our Associates;
  • and, most of all, a woman in love with her God and not afraid to let others know that.

An excellent math and physics teacher, she wanted her students to be the best persons they could be. Some students nicknamed her "Dynamo" because of her endless supply of energy.

As Marie grew in age and wisdom, she became more and more united with her God. She looked with the eyes of God. As Meister Eckhart once stated; "The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me, my eye and God's eye are one eye, one seeing, one knowing, one love."

Sr. Marie is survived by her brother, Maurice (Nancy) as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Services were held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Akron Motherhouse on November 15 and 16; burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date.

Gifts in memory of Sr. Marie may be submitted securely online or mailed to Dominican Sisters of Peace, Office of Mission Advancement, 2320 Airport Dr, Columbus, OH 43219-1092.
