Sr. Kathleen (Kathy) Wood, Marysville, MI, ministers in the pastoral care department at Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford, MI. For eight years she ministered at Mercy Hospital, Port Huron, MI, also in pastoral care. "The many people and experiences I have had throughout my life have provided me with the compassion I can now bring to my ministry," Sr. Kathy said.
In her early years as a Dominican, Sr. Kathy taught elementary school in Ohio, New York and Illinois. In 1975, after receiving a Master of Science in Recreation Administration, she moved into the field of health and wellness, working at the Catholic Youth Organization and later at Bon Secours Hospital, Detroit, MI, and Warren Community College, Warren, MI. A turning point in Sr. Kathy’s life was "when my friends got me involved in running," she said. "My greatest achievement was placing first in my age division in the 1988 Detroit Marathon. I loved to run the marathon distance because it gave me contemplative space. My song while running was 'I will raise you up on eagle’s wings.'"
