Sr. Nang Thi Nguyen, OP

nang thi nguyen-webSr. Nang Thi Nguyen, Louisville, KY, entered the Dominican Sisters in South Vietnam and professed vows there in 1966. In 1980, she, two of her nephews, and one niece escaped by boat to a refugee camp in Singapore. Six months later they entered the United States. "When I came to the Dominicans in Kentucky, I spoke no English and communicated with the Sisters only through my tears," Sr. Nang said. In Vietnam, Sr. Nang taught elementary school. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Spalding University in Louisville, KY, she worked as a bilingual instructor for the Jefferson County Public Schools, in the Social Service and Activities department at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, KY, and as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Marian Home and Four Courts in Louisville, KY. She is now a child caregiver. "The Dominican Sisters and Associates have a big heart for the poor and are always welcoming and hospitable to others," Sr. Nang said. "As a Dominican Sister I live simply, trying to respect and treat others kindly, asking God to open their hearts and minds. This is my way of being peace, building peace and preaching peace."

Yes, I want to make a donation to the Congregation in Sister's honor.
