The Sisters of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Region 6, of which Dominican Sisters of Peace is a part of and includes Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, passed a resolution calling for ecological conversion, responding to the cry of Earth and the cry of the poor in Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. The present condition of these States calls us to transform our region from rust belt industry, mining, fracking, and agriculture that is dependent on high chemical usage to an area that enhances our cultural richness, protects water and soil quality, and nurtures a healthy community, especially for the poorest among us. As Pope Frances says in Laudato Si' (LS #139) our environmental crisis is not separate from our social crises. We commit to continuing dialogue and advocacy in nurturing ecological conversion in both our individual and collective lives.
