Election Season

I wish I had something really new and different to blog about this week! I read the newspapers, listen to TV news and commentators, and it is pretty much the election campaigns making the news. I keep hearing the voice of the school teacher in the Peanuts show: "Wah, wah, wah, blah, blah, wah, wah, wah." Voting for a President is only about 40 days away, and that is pretty much all we are hearing about. Most of it is insulting and misdirecting. Way too much hate for me! But the way our system of checks and balances works, those we elect to local, state, and federal offices are extremely important, as important as who we elect for President, if we hope to end the gridlock of these last eight years.

voteWho's getting your vote?

So, let me ask you this - do you know much about who might be running in your town, city, or state for other elected positions, for example, Mayor, City Council, State Legislators, or Congress, etc.? Have you been so distracted by the hype over Hillary and Donald that you have not paid much attention to the local issues? This is where it all starts. This is where politicians get their feet wet, so to speak. This is our opportunity to let lawmakers know what we need to have healthy and happy lives right where we live.

I need to do my homework, how about you?

Our local elections could be the internships for some really good future leadership in our country. How much time do we spend studying the platforms of those candidates? Do we know the issues that will be on the ballots in November? I guess because I know that I am not the most informed voter in my city, I wonder how others feel? I need to do my homework, how about you? Jesus told the people, "Render under to God, the things that are God's, and to Caesar the things that are Caesar's." Voting goes to Caesar, but God, please help us make the decisions that are best for the common good of our country. Remember how important your vote could be!
