We had our first snowfall of the season in Columbus, OH, last week. Beautiful sparkling snowflakes fell for hours and slowly covered the ground and, twinkling in the sunshine, clung to the trees. It was a beautiful sight, and while I kept stealing glances out the window to admire this winter wonderland, I couldn't help but feel a sense of uncertainty for the future that lies ahead for our planet.
As the President-elect continues to assemble his cabinet and chooses government leaders, climate policy, and progress, is being jeopardized. The President-elect has vowed to remove the United States from the "historic, durable and ambitious" United Nations Paris Agreement. He also plans to cancel all spending related to climate change, roll back all executive actions on climate change, roll back the Clean Power Plan, and expand drilling, among ma
ny other plans and promises.
As Dominican Sisters of Peace and Associates, we understand the urgency in reducing the impact of global climate change and caring for our common home. We have a direct message from Pope Francis in Laudato Si' to be good stewards, a moral call as people of faith to protect and care for this planet, as well as our own commitment described in our Corporate Stance on Climate Change.
