In 1968, a high school senior was given a personal tour of the campus of the newly-renamed Ohio Dominican College in Columbus, OH. Her older sisters had attended the college under its previous name, the College of St. Mary of the Springs, and she wanted to continue the family tradition.
That student went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Dominican College and later came back to serve her alma mater as Director of Campus Ministry. On April 28, 2018, Sr. Margie Davis, OP, was honored as a Distinguished Alumni during a weekend of celebrations surrounding the inauguration of the University's 16th President, Dr. Robert Gervasi.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Sr. Margie also graduated from Our Lady of Peace Grade School, Bishop Watterson High School, Ohio Dominican College with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work in 1972 and a Master of Social Work at Ohio State University in 1992. In 1982, Sr. Margie took her first profession of vows and joined the congregation of Sisters of Saint Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace, ODU’s founding congregation.
Sr. Margie has worked in various ministries, including as a case manager and team leader at Southeast Community Mental Health Center; at The Dwelling Place, a shelter for homeless women in New York City; and as director of Social Work at Mohun Health Care Center in Columbus, OH.
Sr. Margie has served as the director of Campus Ministry at ODU since 2013. During her tenure, ODU has participated in numerous service trips, including annual Spring Break service mission trips to Haiti. Sr. Margie is heavily involved on and around her alma mater, such as attending campus events, coordinating opportunities to serve in the community, and meeting with students.
At the Distinguished Alumni Ceremony, Sr. Margie said, "Ohio Dominican has always been a part of my life. There has always been something special about these hallways, the special attention that each student receives and the comradery that the faculty and staff have with one another. It’s definitely a family affair!"
