Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Linda (Eileen Dolores) Lorenz, OP (70), died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH on Sunday, December 13, 2020.
Sister Mary Linda was born in 1930 in Columbus, OH, to Isabel Seipel and Frank Lorenz, one of a family of 10. She came to know our Sisters by attending Saint Mary of the Springs Academy and entered the community in 1948. She made first profession in 1950 and took her final vows in 1953, celebrating 70 years of religious life in 2020.
A true Dominican, Sr. Mary Linda loved learning and study. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Ohio Dominican University and her Master of Arts in Guidance from Fairfield University. She also studied Music at Pius X School of Music, and Religious Studies at the University of Detroit.
Sister Mary Linda also had a gift for music and shared her musical talent at many Congregational events over the years.
Sister Mary Linda had a varied and very useful ministry that took her around the country,
She served in ministry as a teacher in Connecticut, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for more than 40 years. After a brief sabbatical, she returned to her hometown and the Columbus community to serve as an auditor and notary in the Marriage Tribunal of the Columbus Diocese for over a decade. She also served as a volunteer at the Dominican Learning Center.
After entering her final ministry of prayer and presence at the Mohun Care Center, Sister Mary Linda continued to stay active, attending Mass in Chapel, participating in Center activities, visiting other residents, and sharing her musical talents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Isabel Seipel Lorenz, and her brothers, Terrence, Thomas, and James. She is survived by her brothers, Christopher and Robert, her sisters, Judith Hosler, Linda Peeler, Mary Francis, and Dominican sister, Sr. de Chantal Lorenz, and many nieces and nephews.
Sister Mary Linda was buried in a private service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Columbus, OH, on December 17, 2020. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
