Dominican Sister of Peace Kathleen Andrews, OP, 86, of Albuquerque, NM, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH, on August 31, 2023.
Kathleen was born to Julie Spolar and Daniel Andrews on November 1, 1936. In 1955, she made her first Profession as a Dominican Sister, and has spent the last 68 years caring for God’s people.
Sr. Kathleen earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from St. Mary of the Plains, Dodge City KS, and her master's degree in nursing from the University of Colorado.
She served as a nurse and Vice President of Patient Care Services at Central Kansas Medical Center, the chairperson of the Health Science Department at Barton Community College in Great Bend, KS, and as an apartment manager for Single Parents and Senior Housing in Denver, CO.
In her ministry as neonatal nurse; her ministry in providing safe, equitable care and housing for those in need and finally embodied in how strongly Sr. Kathleen wanted to do everything possible while she “was living with cancer,” she truly exemplified that “with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Julie Spolar Andrews and her sister Marilyn Adams. She is survived by her sister Dolores Bernard and her nieces.
A vigil of remembrance was held on September 11, 2023, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH.
The funeral liturgy was held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel on September 12, 2023, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery by Egan-Ryan Funeral Home.
