Dominican Sister of Peace Jacqueline Baum, (89), died on November 20, 2023, at OSU East Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Jackie was born to Mildred Tussey and John Baum on September 20, 1934, in Cincinnati, OH. She entered the Congregation in 1954 and made her profession in 1957. Sister spent the last 69 years professed as a Dominican Sister.
Sr. Jackie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Ohio Dominican University, Columbus, OH; her Master of Science in Education from Hunter College and her C.A.E.S. (master's-level study) in Administration from Boston College.
Sr. Jackie ministered for forty years as a teacher and principal in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. When asked to become the administrator at Mohun Health Care Center, Sister earned her license in Nursing Home Administration. Prioress Sr. Pat Twohill said, "Jackie approached this position as she had her educational ministry - one of service to those who needed support in dealing with life’s changes.”
In 2002, Sr. Jackie was elected to the Leadership Team of the Columbus founding congregation, where she used her gifts to form the Union of Peace. After leaving leadership, she continued to serve the Congregation as a volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Tussey Baum; her brothers Ronald, Milton, and Anthony Baum; and her sisters, Mary Ellen Powell and Kathleen Keely. She is survived by her brothers: Thomas, John, and Dominic Baum.
A Wake was held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel, Columbus, OH. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Columbus Motherhouse on Friday, December 1. The burial will take place at a later date.
