In his encyclical Laudato Si, Pope Francis said that climate change is real and mainly “a result of human activity.” The Dominican Sisters of Peace believes that ending the threat of climate change will also be "a result of human activity" - our activity and yours, as our friends and supporters.
How can you help create Peace with our planet? Associate Karen Marxen has a few suggestions in her recent blog, here. You can find a list of suggestions on this page from the Catholic Climate as well. No effort is too small - research shows that those who switch just one trip per day from car driving to cycling can reduce their carbon footprint by about 1000 pounds per year!
The Dominican Sisters of Peace are committed to making positive climate change, both through direct action and through advocating to our leaders in industry and government. Click here to learn more about our corporate stance on climate change.
In the past year, our Congregation has placed nearly 650 acres in trust, maintaining farmland, natural spaces, old-growth forests, and wetlands for the future. Our ecological ministry at Shepherd's Corner in Blacklick, OH, has created a brand new wetlands environment, providing a place of learning, a natural habitat, and a place of peace for those nearby.
We are beyond grateful for your prayers and support, and for your own daily actions that help us create peace with Earth.
God of all that is, all of creation speaks your goodness.
Dominican Sister of Peace Maxine Shonk, OP
Open our eyes and ears to see and hear that goodness all around us.
As we look forward to your coming at Christmas, help us to look around and find you already here in the gift of creation.
Teach us to reverence all that you have given us in creation and help us to finally make peace.
