Dominican Sister of Peace Dominic Haug 

Dominican Sister of Peace Dominic Haug, (91), a native of Seneca, KS, died on December 3, 2024, at the Great Bend Infirmary, KS. 
 
Sr. Dominic was born in 1933 as Marlene Dolores Haug, to Lucille Noll and Omer Edward Haug. She professed her perpetual vows in 1958 and dedicated the next 66 years of her life to living those vows. 
 
Sr. Dominic earned a Nursing Diploma from St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, KS, and a Master of Nursing from Texas U, Denton, TX. 
 
Sr. Dominic began her ministry as an Instructor at the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend, KS, where she served for nearly 10 years. She then held several roles in central Kansas, including Supervisor, Nursing Inservice Coordinator, Infirmary Supervisor, and Consultant. Sr. Dominic founded and served as Executive Director/President of Golden Belt Home Health, now part of the University of Kansas Health System. She later became Director of Nursing at the Clinic for the Poor in Alabama before returning to Kansas. From the late 90s until 2014, Connie worked in Pastoral Ministry at a Senior Community near her home. Her final ministry, spent in prayer and presence, was at the Great Bend Motherhouse, where she served for the last ten years of her life. 
 
In her preaching at the funeral, Sr. Barbara Kane reflected on her genuine smile and her love of people, specifically children, saying, "Dominic would light up when employees brought children or grandchildren to the infirmary.” 

Sister Dominic is survived by her brother Michael (Betty) Haug, sisters Jeanne (Tom) Heiman, Mary Haug of Centralia, Regina (Ed) Aldrine, and Cathy Wynkoop, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

A vigil of remembrance took place on Monday, December 9, followed by Burial on December 10, in the Great Bend Motherhouse Cemetary.

  1. Lovely woman ! I Only met her one time , several years ago when I was on a visit for a few days to the Kansas Motherhouse… She took me around the MH, and we drove out and around the locale., and into a little shop.
    It was a delightful visit with someone who felt like an old and dear friend…what a gift… it has stayed with me…..Kay
