Holy Week Activities in New Orleans 

Sisters and Associates celebrated special events in Holy Week. On Holy Thursday, with the help of a food collection by St. Mary’s Dominican High School and a Gert Town grant, the Peace Center was able to gift 35 residents of Pine Street Apartments with an Easter meal of ham, canned goods, beans, rice and candy. Jacqueline Mayo, OPA, did the purchasing, Paul Bonitatibus, OPA, Connie Veit and Sr. Suzanne Brauer, OP, packed the bags, and Vallerie Maurice, OPA, and Bernadette Woods, OPA, delivered the bags and Easter greetings door-to-door to all the grateful residents. 

On Good Friday, Sisters and Associates participated in the annual Way of the Cross, Way of Justice in the Central Business District of New Orleans. We had the first Station, Jesus is Condemned to Death. Sr. Pat Thomas, OP, narrated as we displayed “Signs of the Times,” We were challenged by Matthew 25 to change these into “Christian Signs of our Times."

The sign holders were Chris Cahalan, OPA, Jacqueline Mayo, OPA, Paul Bonitatibus OPA, and Linda Horton. Sr. Angie Magro, OP, displayed the Bible. 

In the Fifth Station, Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus, presented against War by Pax Christi, Kevin Cahalan, OPA, portrayed Jesus.
