Dominican Sister of Peace Ann Frederick Leonard, OP, (97), a native of Belmont, MA, died on April 16, 2025, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY. 
 
Born Ruth Frances to Anna M. Mulvihill and Frederick C. Leonard in the early Spring of 1928, Sister entered religious life in 1945 and served God’s people faithfully for the last 78 years.  
 
Sr. Ann Frederick held a Bachelor of Arts in English, Education, Philosophy, and Psychology from Siena College in Memphis, TN, and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.  
 
Her ministry in education spanned over six decades and included teaching in schools throughout Indiana and Massachusetts; and serving as principal at Holy Rosary Academy in Louisville, Kentucky. 

Sr. Ann Frederick also dedicated many years to St. Catharine College in St. Catharine, Kentucky, where she served in numerous roles including instructor, media center director, dean of students, resource center director, and volunteer math tutor. Her love for the college was deep and enduring. 

In 2013, she moved to Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, KY, where she embraced her final ministry of prayer and presence. 

In her preaching at the funeral Sr. Charlene Moser said: “While Sr. Ann Frederick formally taught math, what she was really teaching was perseverance, critical thinking, logical reasoning, and self-confidence. Through her words and actions, she revealed God’s love and Mary’s gentle care, always striving to draw out the unique potential in each student. And perhaps most powerfully, she taught us how to pray—simply by the way she lived.” 

Sister Ann Frederick is survived by one sister, Martha Trask, as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The visitation was held on Wednesday, April 23, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel, followed by the funeral on Thursday, April 24, at the same location. Sister Ann Frederick was laid to rest in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
