
Dominican Sister of Peace, Edith Roahrig died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, Ohio on December 17, 2025, at the age of 95.
She was born on December 28, 1929 in Coshocton, OH and in the late 1940s entered the Congregation of St. Mary of the Springs, now the Dominican Sisters of Peace and took her final vows several years later. The year 2025 marked her 75th Jubilee. She attributed her faithfulness to the support she received from the Sisters with whom she prayed and lived.
Sr. Edith earned her bachelor’s degree in education from St. Mary of the Springs College, now Ohio Dominican University and her master’s degree in elementary education from Duquesne University. For more than 30 years she taught elementary students in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania schools. She expressed her love of teaching over the years by saying that she “loved watching the young students grasp a topic and was fulfilled by helping young people grow to be citizens of God.”
After teaching, Sr. Edith served at St. Francis- St. George Hospital in Cincinnati and aided others with everything from transportation to communications needs. Her calm presence helped families relieve anxieties and frustrations. She returned to the Columbus Motherhouse where she served as a main receptionist. She entered a ministry of prayer and presence while at Mohun Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Elizabeth Treaner Roahrig, her brother Eugene Roahrig and her sisters, Gertrude Amore, Helen Bordenkircher, Eileen Lahna and Alice Mulford. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Vigil of Remembrance Service was held on December 22, 2025, at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse Chapel and Sr. Edith’s funeral liturgy was held at the Chapel on December 23.
Sr. Diane Kozlowski, OP offered a loving remembrance of Sr. Edith. The Mass was followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
