Dominican Sister of Peace Sr. Carole Rossi, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace Carole Rossi, 88, died September 29, 2026, at Sansbury Care Center.  She was born in Camden, New Jersey, professed her perpetual vows in 1964, and lived as a faithful Dominican Sister for 62 years.

She ministered as a teacher in Kentucky, Tennessee, and as a teacher and principal in Chicago, Illinois. Sr. Carole served as director of personnel for the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine, served on the administrative team at a parish high school in Massachusetts and went on to serve the Spanish community at an East Boston parish, where she became coordinator the East Boston Ecumenical Council. She also ministered at Crystal Spring Ecology Center in Massachusetts for more than 20 years, and her final ministry was in community service, prayer and presence.

Sr. Carole Rossi earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/History from Siena College, a Master of Arts in School Administration from DePaul University, and a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling from Andover-Newton Theological Seminary.

Sisters Rose Marie Cummins and Barbara Harrington provided the reflection during Sr. Carole’s Mass of Resurrection at the Sansbury Chapel on October 9 saying, “You have been told, ‘O woman, what is good and what the Lord requires of you:  Only to do right and to love goodness and to walk humbly with your God.’ It seems these words from Micah were heard loud and clear by Carole sometime, somewhere in her life.”

They went on to say, “Unbeknownst even to herself, Carole was truly a one-of-a-kind woman.  She loved her Italian roots, her Dominican roots, her rootedness to the Earth—and she knew which roots to hold on to tightly and which roots to let go of freely. You have been told what is good and what is required of you…you have arrived!”

Sr. Carole is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Marcucci and Janice Ladik, and three brothers Richard, Vincent, and John Rossi from New Jersey, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
