Mission Immersion Experience
Christ asked the disciples to lay down their nets and follow Him. We invite you to lay down the nets that are a part of your daily life and discover what it is like to serve God’s people as a Dominican Sister of Peace.
At a Mission for Peace (formerly called Mission Immersion) event, you will join with our Sisters and other women who are considering religious life to pray, work, play and build community. This five-day, service-based, hands-on learning experience offers you a real-life experience of prayer and community living. You will have time also to talk to our Sisters to get answers to the questions you have about religious life and about serving others as a Dominican Sister of Peace.
Held twice a year, we have hosted this program virtually and in person at different locations where our sisters minister — in Columbus & Akron, Ohio and in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Here are three articles that capture what this experience is about:
What participants said about Mission Immersion:
“Mission Week was an awesome, inspiring experience that gave me a chance to contemplate and realize the Divine Presence in my life and the world around me in new and different ways. It allowed time to think and meditate on my life, where I am, where I might want to be and in what direction I might go.” – Darla
“Priceless! It was an experience of doing everyday life with an everyday God! What the week really meant to me personally, was more of Jesus’ expression to Simon at the Lake of Gennesaret ‘Cast your net into the deep, and you will find.’ Thanks to the discernment process with the Dominican Sisters of Peace I feel empowered to go into the deep.” – Oliva
