Amnesty International and the Commercial Sex Industry

For many years Amnesty International has been a beacon of hope in their work to inform the world about torture and violence in many forms. I have been a donor for several years, but am putting future donations on hold prior to their international meeting in August, when they will vote to decriminalize prostitution. If passed, this would legitimize the sexual exploitation of hundreds of thousands of women. This cringe-worthy policy recommendation endorses the decriminalization of pimping, brothels and purchasing of sex. Continue reading →

“May the God of Summer be with you, enveloping you with the warmth of love, filling your heart with the brilliance of light, refreshing you and cooling you in the living water of God’s grace. May the blessing of Summer be with you.”

The invitation mailed to the Northeast Ohio Dominican Associates of Peace invited them to Summer Spirituality Gatherings. It said that in the summer, we gather to listen to the voice of God in our ceremonies, to share with others our vision of the Dominican charism in our lives and to take the time to “fill our hearts with the brilliance of light and the living water of God’s grace.” The discernment retreat, a prayer service for St. Mary of Magdala and the Associates Commitment Ceremony for new Candidates and renewing Associates were the three summer gatherings. The final summer event, the Commitment Ceremony is the ritual for all Associates to be present, reaffirm that God has called us and touches our lives, and in response we try to praise, to bless and to preach with our lives. Continue reading →

Sr. Tomasa Sigala, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace Tomasa Sigala, OP, died at Mohun Health Care Center, Columbus, OH, on July 25 , 2015.

Born December 10, 1931, in Rocky Ford, CO, Sr. Tomasa was the daughter of Ramon and Ysidra Gonzales Sigala. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community in Great Bend on August 30, 1956, and pronounced her first vows June 13, 1959. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2009. Continue reading →
